Addressing a press conference on Thursday, both Pyngrope and Snaitang wanted the government to empower the disabled in the state as the people with disabilities are facing many problems.

They pointed out that the CM’s Social Assistance Scheme was introduced in 2012, which included infirm people
and persons with disabilities. The scheme was amended in 2015 to include single mothers. The scheme entails that Rs 500 monthly pension for persons with disabilities should be for the age group of 18 years – 59 years residing in the state.

Pyngrope said while Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are providing Rs 2,000, the state is still giving only Rs 500 per month. “How can any person ensure sustenance in Rs 500 in 2022? Given the skyrocketing price of essential  commodities, how can a differently abled persons manage their daily needs”, Pyngrope said.
