Shillong, June 30: Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has ordered a departmental probe into disposing of expired medicines at Marten dumping ground.
Ampareen said on Friday that Directorate of Health Services will conduct a probe to find out the source of the medicines.
“There’s an incinerator that’s supposed to dispose of expired medicines through proper procedure. We’re looking into the source “, Ampareen said.
Leaders of the Meghalaya Awaken Council Citizens (MACC) had found Municipal trucks dumping expired medicines and other items at Marten on Thursday evening.
MACC president Banshai Marbaniang suspects that the source of the medicines may be Ganesh Das Hospital.
The concern raised by the pressure group is that the disposal of medicines is at a time when the PHCs and CHCS are facing shortage of medicines.
