Ampareen to focus on polls, not keen to fight case

Shillong, Dec 23: CLP leader Ampareen Lyngdoh wants to focus on 2022 in the run- upto the 2023 Assembly polls instead of wasting time on pursuing the case against 12 Congress legislators after the Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh accepted their merger with AITC on Thursday.

In a statement issued soon after the decision of the Speaker,  Ampareen said she respects the order of the Speaker. “I will not pursue this petition forward because our campaign will take priority in 2022. The party, however, may have a different view on the matter. On this, our president will decide and we await his decision.”

According to Ampareen, the CLP took the available space to move a petition against the desertion, this being an opportunity to object to the manner in which the exodus happened and hence there is no regret.

“However, taking this forward would be an unnecessary diversion from the task before us. We still have our election platforms to continue discussion on this betrayal and at the end of the day, the public will decide and present their verdict on election results”, she added.
