Shillong, June 24: There are concerns about the BJP leader in-charge Meghalaya Chuba Ao continuing even after the defeat of the BJP-NPP LS poll candidates in the state.
“The result of the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls in Meghalaya is surprising that the NPP, being the rulling party in the state, has lost both the seats of Shillong and Tura. Especially, losing Tura is really surprising, unbelievable and also unfortunate”, said a statement by C. R. Koch,
a senior BJP Karyakarta, Tura, West Garo Hills.
According to the party worker, NPP has 18 MLAs and 9/10 MDCs in Garo Hills besides the Chief Minister and CEM of the District Council are also from the same region. But still they lost Tura defeated by
lone MLA of the Congress Saleng Sangma. “It’s something like miracle. But how ?… what
is/are the reason(s) behind this defeat ?… The defeat is unfortunate and discredit not
only NPP but also BJP as the BJP is a coalition partner of NPP on one hand and had
sacrificed both the seats for NPP.
I feel non-setting up of the BJP candidates in Tura and Shillong is one of the main reasons. Had there been a BJP candidate, at least
NPP could have won Tura Seat if not Shillong. I am hundred percent sure about it. Not
only me, even a lay man can think of it.
Question arises, if a small karyakarta of the party like me can think of it, how a
leader like Mr. M Chuba Ao who is not only the Prabhari (In-charge) of BJP, Meghalaya
but also a National Vice-President of the BJP could not think about it? Is it really
because of his ignorance about the same or, he did it deliberately with some vested
interest?, the party worker asked.
He said Ao misled the party in the Lok Sabha polls.
“Whatever it may be, in my opinion, Mr. Ao is responsible for the defeat of NPP in
the last election. And as such, according to me, Mr. Ao does not have any moral right to continue as the Prabhari. So, he should immediately relinquish the post. If not I would like to request our BJP national president to remove him atleast from the post of Prabhari if not from both the posts he is holding in the greater interest of the party. I would also like to say that, the State President of BJP, Meghalaya too is responsible for the same partially if not wholly”, he added.
