
Shillong, March 24: The pressure groups and leaders of Garo Hills met the Meghalaya Governor C.H. Vijayashankar, seeking his intervention to amend para 12A of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India and the rule 128 of the district councils.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting on Tuesday, the GSU president Tengsak G Momin said that the delegation discussed amending Rule 128 to insert indigenous scheduled tribes of Garo Hills and modifying Para 12A of the Sixth Schedule to limit the Meghalaya government’s interpretation of district council rules.

The governor notified Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificates mandatory for participation in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council elections.
