Arunachal CM announces fuel VAT reduction

Itanagar, Nov 4 (UNI): On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday joined the league of the BJP and NDA-ruled states to announce reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel to give ‘relief’ to the consumers, official sources said.

This comes a day after the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre took the all-important decision of slashing the Central Excise Duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10, respectively.

Thanking Modi for reducing Central Excise Duty on petrol and diesel on the eve of the Festival of Lights, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu taking to Twitter on Thursday announced the reduction of VAT on petrol from existing 20% to 14.5% and on diesel from 12.5% to 7%.

“Thank you PM Shri @narendramodi Ji for reducing Central Excise duty on Petrol & Diesel on this auspicious day. Arunachal Govt is also pleased to announce the reduction of State VAT on Petrol from existing 20pc to 14.5pc and Diesel from 12.5pc to 7pc,” Khandu said in a tweet.

The Chief Minister said with the Central and State Govt decisions, petrol will be cheaper by Rs 10.20 per litre and diesel by Rs 15.22 which will be effective from the midnight of November 5 (Friday).

“With the Central & State Govt decisions Petrol will now be ₹91.87 per Ltr & Diesel ₹79.83 per Ltr in the State w.e.f 12:00 AM of 5th Nov 2021. Consumers will benefit by ₹10.20 per Ltr in Petrol & ₹15.22 per ltr in Diesel after the relief given both by the Centre and State Govt,” Khandu tweeted.
