Assam activist against luxury hotels near Kaziranga arrested
Shillong, July 12: Pranab Doley, the Assam activist who has been vocal against luxury hotels projects near Kaziranga National Park, was arrested on Sunday morning.
Doley was taken to Dispur police station. In a video on social media, Doley, who was seen being shoved inside a police van, told media persons that he was picked up “like goons” and that “there was no notice given to me”.
“If I can’t voice out my opinion for other people, what kind of democracy is this,” he was heard saying.
Doley is the convenor of the Greater Kaziranga Land and Human Rights Committee and he has been vocal against hotel projects near the national park. He belongs to the Mising community. He contested in the 2021 Assembly elections as a candidate from Bokakhat constituency and finished in the second place.
