Assam tops with 27 gold at 10th NE Shooting Championship

Shillong, Aug 30: The 10th North East Shooting Championship 2023, which started on August 20 concluded on August 27 at the Precision Indoor Range of the Assam Regimental Centre, Happy Valley.

More than 270 shooters from the northeastern states and the Services (Army Marksmen unit & Assam Rifles Marksmen unit) with the exception of Sikkim and Tripura competed in the week-long Championship.

Assam emerged as the Champions and topped the medal tally with 27 gold, 13 silver and
13 bronze. The second position was secured by Mizoram with 18 gold, 10 silver and 9 bronze followed by Assam Rifles Marksmen unit in third place with 12 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze.

Meghalaya secured 3 gold, 6 Silver and 4 bronze while Manipur closed the table with 10 silver and 7 bronze. Nagaland secured 6 Silver and 3 bronze and Army Marksmen Unit (AMU) closed the table with 6 gold, 4 silver and a bronze.

A special category prize was also awarded under the 10m Air Pistol Championship (Deaf Women)to Smti Upanksha Sarma from Assam. Certificates were also distributed by the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour on behalf of the NRAI to candidates who have successfully completed the NRAI National Judges Course (Rifle & Pistol).

The Championship was organised by the Shooting Association of Meghalaya (SAM) in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and also supported by the North Eastern Council. The Championship was conducted under the aegis of the National Rifle Association of India.

The chief guest at the prize distribution and closing ceremony was former DGP Peter.JP Hanaman.
