Assembly panel happy with ITI work in Sakwang

Shillong, Sept 7: The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Estimates, led by Nongpoh Legislator Mayralborn Syiem, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the construction of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Sakwang, Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills.

Syiem hoped the institute will become fully operational soon. He noted that only the external electrification work and water connectivity are pending.

Syiem also extended gratitude to the Dorbar Shnong of Sakwang for donating around 4 acres of land to the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training under the Department of Labour for the ITI construction, which is expected to benefit the youth of the district.

He elaborated that the ITI would offer training in five trades, including Surface Ornamentation Technique and Embroidery, Wireman, Office Assistant cum Computer Programme, Multimedia-Animation-Special Effect, and Driver cum Mechanic among others.

Committee Member and Mawkyrwat MLA, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, pointed out that the students from the district had had to travel to other districts for their education. With the establishment of the ITI, students from South West Khasi Hills would have improved access to vocational training. He expressed hope that the institute would become fully operational at the earliest.

The tour also included Adelbert Nongrum, Miani D Shira, Wailadmiki Shylla, Arbingstone B Marak, Damanbait Lamare, Remington Momin and the officials of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

The inspection of the ITI was part of the Estimate Committee’s two-day tour across four districts of the state, which included West Jaintia Hills District, East Jaintia Hills District, East Khasi Hills District, and South West Khasi Hills.
