Babul ‘happy’ after meeting Mamata

Kolkata, Sept 20 (UNI): Former Union minister Babul Supriyo on Monday called on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at her secretariat office Nabanna, exactly two days after he joined the Trinamool Congress in presence of Abhishek Banerjee (MP) on Saturday.

Babul was seen entering the state secretariat in Howrah, along with TMC Rajya Sabha member Derek O Brien, who was also present when the playback singer-turned-politician joined the party from BJP.

“I am happy with the talks we had with the chief minister,” Babul told the reporters after emerging from the CM office. “I will perform whatever task is thrust upon me. I am also grateful to Abhisekh Banerjee for giving me this opportunity,” Babul said.

According to one report, Babul, when asked about criticisms against him for using the central security, said he had asked for withdrawal of the security on August 3. “So, I drove myself today. There was no security,” he reportedly said.

Babul on Sunday said he wished to have Banerjee as the prime minister of India in 2024, because the TMC supremo is the only face of the opposition parties to challenge Narendra Modi across the country.

A BJP MP from Asansol, Babul said, “I want to see that India’s most popular leader Mamata Banerjee becomes the PM after the 2024 Parliament poll and undoubtedly and she is India’s most popular leader to replace incumbent PM, Narendra Modi. When Narendra Modi was the hope of 2014, why not Mamata Banerjee to be PM in 2024.”
