Bangladesh freedom fighters in city
Shillong, May 10: Department of Arts & Culture in coordination with High Commission of India, Dhaka is facilitating the visit of 25 Mukti Jodhas( Bangladesh freedom fighters) who were part of Bangladesh liberation war.
A cultural evening at Raj Bhavan “ Saluting the Bravehearts “ a musical docu-drama highlighting Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations,Meghalaya @50 are the highlights.
The delegation is led by journalist Haroon Habib.
The MuktivJodhas were welcomed at the Indo- Bangladesh Friendship gate in the border at Dawki -Tamabil on Monday.
On Tuesday, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations, the delegation of freedom fighters visited Headquarters, Eastern Air Command of Indian Air Force in city.
Air Marshal AP Singh , Senior Air Staff Officer interacted with the Mukti Jodhas and praised their role and efforts towards liberation of Bangladesh They were accompanied by FR Kharkongor, Commissioner & Secretary, Arts & Culture Department and joint secretary KL Nongbri.
Kharkongor thanked the Eastern Air Command for organising the function and said that some members of the delegation even got emotional during the function as they relived their memories of the war.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Habib paid homage to the heroic members of the Indian Armed Forces who fought for the liberation of Bangladesh and said that their contributions will remain enshrined in Bangladesh independence history. The visit is being undertaken as part of Golden Jubilee of Liberation War of 1971 and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations and provides an opportunity for members of the delegation to relive the moments of Liberation War.
Earlier, they were felicitated at Soso Tham Auditorium.
The delegation also visited Mawphlang Sacred Grove to experience the ecological heritage of the Khasis.
