Bank Officers Federation opposes privatisation

Shillong, July 19: All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), Meghalaya unit has opposed the move to privatise the nationalised banks while celebrating the 55th Bank Nationalisation Day, on Wednesday.

Breifing reporters, the Meghalaya unit secretary Davis Lyngdoh said on the occasion of the 55th bank nationalisation day in India, the AIBOC representing over 300,000 bank officers, lauds the historic decision in 1969 that paved the way for the public sector’s crucial role in the country’s development across all economic sectors.

Davis pointed out that the privatisation will lead to corporates ruling the bank sector at the cost of the staff and the customers.

The unit plans blood donation camps, health screening camps, tree planting, school and college debates, and similar initiatives for the betterment of society.

According to the confederation, Public Sector Banks are in danger of privatisation.
The employees of public sector banks have played a crucial role in upholding national
values and serving citizens with the utmost commitment. They have endured a variety
of economic cycles, exhibited resiliency, and continued to provide vital banking
services uninterrupted even during difficult Covid periods and during calamities, the federation said.
