
Guwahati, Mar 24: Favourites Tamil Nadu defeated Kerala on Sunday and will meet Karnataka, who defeated Delhi 67-48, in the women’s final of the 1st U23 National Basketball Championship at Sarusajai Indoor Stadium here.
In the men’s category, Haryana defeated Karnataka 84-70 on Sunday and will meet the winners of Rajasthan and Punjab in the final of the 1st U23 National Championship here.
In the men’s semi-final, after an evenly fought first quarter of 22-22, Karnataka surged ahead with a lead of 47- 42 at the interval and ended up leading 63-59 in the third quarter. But in the last quarter, Karnataka missed too many three-pointers. The Haryana captain took control of the situation to end with a score of 84-70.
In the women’s first semi-final, Karnataka anchored by senior international Sathya K dominated the proceedings with 6 assists and ended up the first quarter leading 19-11 and the first half with 35-23 before winning the match with the score 67-48. Karnataka captain Niharika Reddy led the scoring with 27 points and 13 rebounds and was well-assisted by Mekhala Gowda contributing 18 points.
Delhi railway star Rashi Kotani came as the top performer with 21 points with 18 rebounds to her credit.
