BDO orders probe into Askikandi VEC
Shillong, Sep 16: The Demdema Block Development Officer has ordered an inquiry into the functioning of Askikandi Village Employment Council (VEC) on Tuesday.
The action was following the complaints of Sayad Zaman and others against Mofidur, the caretaker of Askikandi VEC.
The complaints were lodged against the VEC functionaries/caretakers of part- I, Askikandi VEC and self-styled VEC functionary Mofidur who has been running Askikandi VEC Part- I in the name of caretakers Zakia Yesmin and Monowara Begum and Yesmin is the daughter of Mofidur , against whom an FIR was lodged by the then BDO Pitinson R. Sangma for misappropriation of MGNREGA fund, thereupon the police had registered a criminal case under section 403 and 406 0f IPC and Mofidur has violated the guidelines of MGNREGS and fraudulently withdrawn the money meant for wages.
The complaints said Rahman misguided the block staff and the BDO concerned and thereafter the Askikandi VEC had been suspended but now it has been running with the caretakers at the village level.
Hence, it was sought that the accused Mofidur must not be allowed to run any part of Askikandi VEC and legal action be taken against him.
The headman and the caretakers of other parts of Askikandi VEC, and job card holders of part- I VEC had filed several complaints against Mofidur and in response, the BDO ordered the probe.
