Addressing a press conference, Shanlang Diengdoh, the president of the union, said that after the NGT ban on coal mining in 2014, the functioning of the MCCL was affected due to the difficulty in bringing coal from outside the state for producing cement.

He said as the machine is outdated, there is a need to go for modernization of the plant.

“We are not concerned about privatisation, what we need is the state should help the employees by way of releasing funds.Over 400 employees are waiting for a reply from the government”, he added.

Though MCCL used to produce 500 metric tonnes of cement , the production increased  to 600 metric tonnes after modernisation

However, the production stopped a few years ago.
