Shillong, Sep 16: Mawmluh Cherra Cements Employees Union has asked the government to address their pending demands since 2018.
The major demands are salary and pending dues to be paid till the plant resumes operation, speedy and normal functioning of the plant with upgradation and implementation of VRS/ golden handshake scheme.
Addressing a press conference, Shanlang Diengdoh, the president of the union, said that after the NGT ban on coal mining in 2014, the functioning of the MCCL was affected due to the difficulty in bringing coal from outside the state for producing cement.
He said as the machine is outdated, there is a need to go for modernization of the plant.
“We are not concerned about privatisation, what we need is the state should help the employees by way of releasing funds.Over 400 employees are waiting for a reply from the government”, he added.
Though MCCL used to produce 500 metric tonnes of cement , the production increased to 600 metric tonnes after modernisation
However, the production stopped a few years ago.
