Bernard comes out of jail, BJP asks CM to contest only from South Tura

Shillong, Nov 16: BJP state president Ernest Mawrie has extended support to party leader Bernard Marak who was released from jail, on Wednesday.

Mawrie challenged the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to fight only from South Tura seat and not hedge his career by fighting on two seats and face the might of the party’s vice president Bernard in the Assembly elections.

In a statement, Mawrie said  Bernard was  released against all odds and despite the best efforts of the NPP government to keep him under lockup.

Mawrie said the case against him has no basis or proof, and that it is a matter of despicable political vendetta.

“Conrad Sangma is aware of the rising popularity of Bernard Marak and is scared of losing the peoples’ mandate in Tura”, Mawrie said.

“The people of Tura and the state have already made up their mind to oust the NPP government in the upcoming elections,” he said.

Mawrie called Marak a crusader, and urged him to continue his fight against corruption.
