BJP hopes to end impasse with new leader in Manipur

Shillong/Imphal,Feb 3: BJP hopes to end the current impasse with the election of Yumnam Khemchand Singh as the party’s legislature party leader.
“Heartiest congratulations to Hon’ble Shri @YKhemchandSingh on being elected as the BJP Legislature Party Leader of Manipur. On behalf of BJP Manipur Pradesh, we wish you great success. Your experience, dedication, and leadership will further strengthen the party and serve the aspirations of the people of Manipur”, said the social media post of the party.
Yumnam was elected as the next leader in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Manipur has been under the President’s rule since February 13, 2025 after the resignation of N Biren Singh as chief minister. The current term of President’s rule will expire on February 13.
The BJP legislators and MLAs of other NDA partners were called to reach Delhi by February 2 evening. No clear agenda was mentioned in the invitation, reports had said.
Sources said that several meetings were held following which the 61-year-old was elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party.

Yumna was first elected from Singjamei assembly constituency in Imphal West district from the BJP ticket in 2017. He was again elected in 2022.
Speculations are doing the rounds that two deputy chief ministers will be accommodated this time. But their names are yet to be revealed.
However, sources said time will only tell whether the new development will ease the prevailing situation in the state or not.
Celebrations have begun at the residence of Yumnam. His supporters have been converging in his official quarters as well as in his residence after the news broke.
Yumnam had held the post of Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly in his first tenure and also a minister of Rural Development.
Sources said that the swearing-in ceremony of the new chief minister or installation of the new government will be completed by February 9.(NNN)
