Shillong, April 24: BJP leader Bernard N Marak, who is emerging as a strong contender to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in 2023 polls, echoed the views of the party regarding the state reservation policy that the reservation of 40 % should be for backward and economically weaker sections of Garo, Khasi and Jaintia communities.
Earlier, BJP MLA AL Hek had raised the issue in the Assembly and said backward people among the tribes should get preference.
Calling the youths of the state to seek reforms in job recruitment policies of the state, Marak said in a statement that it should be a transparent process.
Marak said the BJP will go door to door to make people realise about faulty recruitment system in the state till date.
“Foremost it should be a transparent process, with standards of national level exams. OMR type should be the basis of evaluation. MeritĀ should be the order of selection”, he said.
According to Marak, who is the vice president of the BJP, having a pool of professionals from various fields, ‘the various department selection process leaves us devoid of officers and centrally selected officers are brought in to help manage affairs of our state’.

“We need competent staff and officers as nepotism and favouritism- both have resulted in a faulty working mechanism. Files are piled up and important issues are pending due to lack of skilled manpower. If competent work force is not recruited, it will have serious repercussion on the development of the state and its people. If found incompetent, transfer or demotion should make way into their careers”.
Vacancies need to be filled and existing manforce needs to get serious and become highly professional, he said adding that the government should have various skill development initiatives and grooming to upgrade the skill of our youth.
The government should get pro-active and bring in various schemes and investments so as to create more employment, he said.
