‘BJP to prevent Cong to form govt in 2023’

Shillong, Sept 8: The BJP’s national council member, Bashailang Khongwir has said the party  will ensure that a non-Congress government is formed in Meghalaya after the next Assembly polls.

The stand of the BJP leader comes in the wake of appointment of Shillong MP Vincent Pala as the MPCC president.

Recalling Manipur where the Congress had 29 elected legislators but still it could not form the government, Khongwir wanted to know whether there is any chance for the Congress in Meghalaya.

“The BJP will ensure that a non-Congress government is formed in Meghalaya”, he said.

Describing the Congress and its ploy hilarious, Khongwir said in a statement that the Congress can never come back to power in Meghalaya but if its MLAs are desperate for power then they should leave the party first and join the BJP.

The BJP leader also accused Pala and the Congress of opportunistic politics at a time when all political parties should stand together to resolve the ongoing law and order crisis in the state.

Khongwir pointed out about internal rift within the Congress after Pala was appointed party president.

“Media houses have highlighted Mukul, Charles and Pala camps which clearly indicate the internal divisions,” Khongwir said.

No-confidence motion

He said in the last session, the Congress wanted to move a no-confidence motion against the government and during the upcoming session, they want the removal of the speaker and in the next session ‘we might see exodus of the Congress MLAs from the party’.

On Pala’s allegation that BJP is playing divisive politics, Khongwir said the Shillong MP should ask Sonia why they have merged with AIUDF in Assam founded by Mohammad Badrudin Ajmal. “What is the hidden agenda behind the alliance with AIUDF party?”

He also said the Congress is responsible for the financial mess in Meghalaya.

“The MDA government is now clearing the financial mess left behind by the previous Congress government. Despite two years of Covid crisis, the MDA government has made considerable financial corrections and is dealing ably with the financial crunch deepened further by the global pandemic,” Khongwir said.

The NDA led by BJP at the Centre has provided a much needed boost and financial support to Meghalaya, he added.

“People understand that with the Congress at the helm of affairs, they are bound to suffer”, he added.
