BJP’s support to NPP unconditional: Rikman Momin
Shillong, Apr 8: The BJP has denied any conditions put forward by the party to support NPP candidate Agatha Sangma in Garo Hills.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party denied a media report that claimed that absorption of the two BJP MDCs was a condition laid out by BJP in return for support to Agatha Sangma during the elections.
“The central leadership of BJP decided to support NDA candidates in Meghalaya and the disciplined workers of the party don’t even dream of going against our highly respected leadership. I am repeating this again, for it warrants repetition. Such stories reek of vested interests and reputed media houses should avoid printing such baseless tales”, party president Rikman G Momin said.
BJP and NPP leaders met in Tura on April 7 to make co-ordinated efforts for Agatha’s victory.
The Tura meet is the second after a meeting was held in Shillong recently.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma reminded the gathering of the close relationship he has shared with the Prime Minister, a relationship that goes back over a decade, and pointed out that every vote for an NDA candidate is a reaffirmation of people’s faith in the leadership of Narendra Modi, a thought that finds resonance amongst every BJP karyakarta in the state and nation.
The chief minister praised Rikman for ensuring smooth co-ordination and teamwork.
The meeting was attended by both the BJP MDCs Bernard Marak and Benedict Marak, along with over 300 leaders and workers of the party. The participation dispelled the rumours about resentment in the party.
The state BJP leadership slammed TMC leader Mukul Sangma who had alleged that Congress candidate Vincent Pala was the architect of the BJP-NPP-Congress nexus in Meghalaya. “Officially BJP in Meghalaya is supporting NPP as an alliance partner of the NDA. BJP’s tie up with the Congress is an absurd remark”, said BJP’s chief spokesperson, Mariahom Kharkrang.
