Bridge connecting 7 EJH villages may be repaired soon
Shillong, Oct 22: A crucial bridge in East Jaintia Hills connecting seven villages has been in a shambles for years now and may soon be reconstructed.
The Jaiñtia National Council JNC 7 Chnong Circle, East Jaintia Hills, said on Tuesday that a notice for inviting tenders for the reconstruction of the Moolamanoh bridge was issued on October 14.
Last year, the council submitted a memorandum to the PWD executive engineer of the Khliehriat division requesting immediate bridge reconstruction. The council members met the official again on Tuesday to follow up.
Executive Engineer E. Kharnaïor told the council that the PWD published the notice for the reconstruction at Rs 19.2 crore approximately.
The 140-m bridge, locally called Lyngkeiñ Um-su-wai, was constructed in the mid-nineties. It is the lifeline of residents of seven villages.
