Nengkra Rural Haat, a helping hand to village vendors
Williamnagar, Oct 22: Nengkra Rural Haat, around 14 km from here, has provided succour to many village vendors, who have been otherwise facing hardships in the absence of a vending space.
The area is under Samanda Community and Rural Development Block.
The speeding coal-laden trucks in the past had posed hurdles to many roadside vendors in the area.
The work for the market started in 2019 with the assistance from NABARD and MGNREGS worth over Rs 21 lakh. It was completed in 2022.
The market on every Sunday caters to seven villages.
Enok R Marak, Junior Engineer of Samanda Block, narrated the plight the roadside vendors had faced due to the reckless movement of the coal-laden trucks.
With the setting up of the market, the vendors can freely carry out their trade, Marak said.
The open hall at the market is also used for providing social service schemes.
During the DIPR sponsored visit of the journalists to the market on Tuesday, the villagers were seen queuing to register for health cards.
