BSF seizes phensedyl bottles

Shillong, April 2: The troops of 43 bn BSF on Friday seized 210 bottles of phensedyl from international border of South Garo Hills district while they were being smuggled from India to Bangladesh.
In a statement on Saturday, the BSF said that the smuggling of the banned cough syrup from India to Bangladesh remains a challenge for the force.
The codeine-based cough syrup used as a substitute for liquor, is strictly prohibited in the neighbouring country. Since this year, the BSF Meghalaya seized more than 1300 bottles of phensedyl while being smuggled through international border.
“Border security forces of India and Bangladesh exchange monthly data on seizure of drugs and narcotics to identify vulnerable routes and to make coordinated plan for curbing the menace”, the BSF said.
