Cabinet extends time to pay tax dues
Shillong, Jan 17: The cabinet has decided to extend the time for payment of pending dues by tax payers.
The cabinet on Monday approved the proposal to amend the Meghalaya Settlement of Arrears under the State Taxation Act Amendment Ordinance, 2022.
Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui told reporters that while the state government implemented the one- time settlement of tax, there are some persons, firms, agencies who have already paid some percentage of the tax but they could not clear all. “There are some firms which have already submitted the application as they could not pay because the last date for settlement is over,” he said.
“Therefore, the taxation department have proposed to give (time) only to those who have submitted the application and (have expressed) willingness, so the cabinet has approved this ordinance to enable those dealers, traders or persons who have liabilities, to settle their tax,” he added.
With this, the minister said the government will be able to generate Rs 12 crore for pending cases which lies with the taxation department.
When asked, Rymbui informed that around 26 have fully paid their dues.
Vehicle number series
The cabinet has approved the proposal to implement BH series or Bharat series for vehicles in the state.
Rymbui said, “We have approved the proposal of the transport department for implementation of the BH series in the state.”
He said this will benefit people who are transferred from one place to another so that they do not require to register their vehicles again and again due to change of residence.
