Cabinet nod to seven border outposts in state

Shillong, Nov 29: The state cabinet on Tuesday approved the creation of outposts in sensitive locations in Meghalaya along the border areas.

Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, the chief minister Conrad Sangma said the border outposts will be set up at Mooriap in East Jaintia Hills, Mukroh  & Tihwieh in West Jaintia Hills, Rani at Jirang in Ri-Bhoi, Umwali , Lejadubi & Langpih  in West Khasi Hills.

The decision comes a week after the incident of killing of five Meghalaya residents and one Assam forest guard on November 22 at Mukroh.

Chief Minister said there is also a plan to set up an outpost in Athiabari in West Khasi Hills.

He said the outposts in Patharkhmah in Ri Bhoi and Kyrshai in West Khasi Hills will be upgraded.
