Shillong, March 14: Two ruling members have called for National Investigation Agency(NIA) probe into 2018 Williamnagar bomb blast that killed the NCP candidate Jonathan Sangma (in picture) and three others prior to the Assembly polls .
During the question hour, the NCP legislator from Gambegre, Saleng A Sangma raised the demand for NIA probe into the killing of his candidate from Williamnagar.
The demand was supported by NPP legislator from Williamnagar Marcuise N Marak.
An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) killed 43-year-old Jonathan along with his two security guards and his driver at Sawilgre village in East Garo Hills on February 18, 2018 when he was returning from an election campaign.
Through a supplementary question Saleng said nobody has claimed responsibility for the Williamnagar incident.
“If an NIA or CBI probe could be put up for this Williamnagar incident,” he said.
Supporting the suggestion, Marcuise said the particular bomb blast where a candidate was killed is very serious.
“I would like to urge the home minister, if an NIA investigation can be initiated,” he added.
Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said police have registered a case under variious sections of the IPC and that investigation is being done by the police.
He refused to provide further details citing that many of such cases are lying with some commissions of inquiry.
