Shillong, Nov 11: The campaign for the November 13 Gambegre bypoll ended at 4 pm on Monday.
The seat is dear to Saleng Sangma of the Congress who vacated it to contest the Tura Lok Sabha seat.
The close associate of Saleng, Jingjang Marak is the candidate of the Congress to contest the bypoll.
For Chief Minister Conrad Sangma winning Gambegre will mark the entry of his wife Mehtab Chandee Agitok Sangma to the Assembly.
Besides the chief minister, the NPP ministers, MLAs and MDCs had campaigned for the party candidate.
AITC nominee Sadhiarani Sangma, who is also the wife of former minister Zenith Sangma, is an important contender as she is also an MDC.
Bernard Marak of the BJP was critical of the NPP regime during his campaign.
They are two Independents -Sengkrabirth Marak and Jerry A Sangma in the fray.
