Michael had unsuccessfully contested from Umsning in 2018.

After the BJP central leadership alleged that Kharsyntiew made unfounded allegations,  Kharsyntiew released the report naming former state BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh and former general secretary Bashailang Khongwir for accepting cash of Rs 10,000 each.

The probe report of the BJP appointed disciplinary committee said that the two leaders took the cash thinking that it is a token of good will.

Kharsyntiew brought before the media the chairman of the disciplinary committee who probed the cash for ticket scam.

Addressing a press conference, the chairman of disciplinary committee, Bhagwati Prasad Goenka said that the BjP leadership kept his report under wraps.

“When I pursued that Michael should be exonerated in an executive committee meeting, the prahari (BJP leader in-charge of Meghalaya) told me not to pursue the case”, Goenka said.

Nalin Kohli was the prahari then.
