Shillong, Sept 17: Congress legislator Charles Pyngrope said on Friday that the government should examine creation of one more district to be carved out of East Khasi Hills with its headquarters in Sohra.
Earlier to a question on the creation of more districts by George Lyngdoh (Congress),
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday said creation of new districts and sub-divisions in the state is under examination of the government.
Replying to a supplementary query by Lyngdoh, Conrad said as of now, the government has decided in principle to upgrade Mairang sub-division into a district.
He said the state government is examining eight proposals for creation of new districts and new sub-divisions.
The chief minister said the parameters generally considered for new districts and sub-divisions are extent of the area, population, distance from the existing district/sub division headquarter, status of education & health services, general economic condition, public convenience, communication and availability of funds.
After a query was made by Lyngdoh for a comparative analysis on the proposals to know whether demands are geniune or not, Conrad said information and details can be given but decision will be different.
