Shillong, Aug 13: On the second death anniversary of former HNLC leader Cherishstarfield Thangkhiew, the family says the compromise formula offered by the government is not acceptable.
The state government offered two jobs in the government sector and cash to the family of Thangkhiew, who was shot dead in an operation by the police at his residence in Mawlai Kynton Massar on August 13, 2021.
“The government verbally offered two government jobs and money, but we rejected the offer as we want is justice”, said F. Diengdoh, the son of Cherishstarfield.
Granaryfield Thangkhiew, the brother of former HNLC leader Cherishstarfield asserted the family will not compromise on justice and wants to know the truth as to who ordered the killing.
“I know the names of police personnel involved in the killing but the government is keeping quiet and there has been no action against the police personnel hence we are demanding a CBI inquiry through the High Court of Meghalaya”,
Moreover, the family said the police have not acted on the FIR lodged.
“After we filed the FIR, police took our statements other than that nothing else was initiated”, Diengdoh said.
According to the family, the judicial inquiry report by Justice (retd) T Vaiphei had inducted police officers for the wreckless action. As there was a delay by the government to take action against those involved, the family moved the High Court of Meghalaya for a CBI probe into the matter. The court is yet to give any verdict as affidavits and counter affidavits were filed by both the parties.
The family has kept the faded blood marks circled by the police as exhibits and the drilled holes of the walls at the residence intact for the last two years.
