Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee assumes office

Shillong, Nov 24: Justice Sanjib Banerjee was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya by the Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, on  Wednesday.

Born on November 2, 1961 , Banerjee had earlier served as Chief Justice of Madras High Court and judge of Calcutta High Court.

Earlier, the Madras Bar Association had objected to the transfer of Banerjee saying that it was a ‘punishment’  posting since he was an honest judge. A letter was also sent to Supreme Court collegium in this regard but in vain.
