Choukham postal scam victim yet to get justice
Next hearing at Yupia District and Sessions Court on May 7

Shillong, May 2: A veteran citizen, who was the victim of a postal scam in Choukham in Arunachal Pradesh, is yet to get justice.
Dr RK Varshney was duped of over Rs 4 lakh by a former postal officer, Ranjana Singh, at Choukham sub-post office in 2015. He was one of the 28 victims. He is yet to get the interest on the amount that was siphoned off.
The Chowkham sub-post office comes under the CPMG office, NE Circle, Shillong.
The CBI registered an FIR against Singh in 2017. It alleged that Singh and one Padam Prasad Sharma, the then SPM at Chowkham SO, misappropriated public and government money between 2010 and 2015.
Based on the FIR, the District and Sessions Court in Yupia, Arunachal Pradesh, started hearing the case. The upcoming hearing is on May 7.
During its April hearing last year, the court observed that it had sufficient evidence “that both the accused persons being public servants” had misused the fund. The accused were charged under several sections. The accused pleaded not guilty.
On May 7, the victim will be examined as witness in the case.
