Shillong, Oct 7: The Khasi Jaintia Church Leaders Forum (KJCLF) organised a special prayer meet ‘on praying together for good’ on Friday for the cessation of the casino gaming industry and the repeal of related Act.
The prayer service was held at the KJP English Service Church, Police Bazar, on Friday.
Leaders representing various church denominations, in their prayers, highlighted the gravity of the issue related to the government’s move to set up casinos in the state.
Later, speaking to reporters, KJCLF secretary Rev Edwin H Kharkongor said the special prayer meet was held so that the government will realise the futility of setting up casinos in the state.
“We hope that the government will also repeal the gaming Act”, Kharkongor said.
According to Kharkongor, the KJCLF is concerned over the lukewarm attitude of the government to the closure of the casino gambling industry and the repeal of the Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act 2021.
The participants through their prayers hinted at the evil effect and the social costs of the nefarious activities of the government.
Earlier, prayers were recited by the president of KJCLF, Rev Dr. P Lyngdoh, Rev Leaderwell Pohsngap, Balasuk Warjri and RO Wallang,
