City NGO works for drug-free Meghalaya
Shillong, July 16: An NGO named Meghalaya Social Programmes Welfare Development Organisation has taken initiative to addres the issue of drugs abuse.
The general secretary of the organisation, Rihana Majaw recently explained its aims and objectives during the one year celebration of YESS programme initiated by the MDA government to empower local entrepreneurs.
According to Majaw, the organisation created awareness programme about HIV/AIDS since 2010 along the highway in Ri Bhoi district in collaboration with impulse NGO,
Rihana was also associated with the Khasi film Pyn Ngop which highlights the dangers of drugs abuse.
In Shillong, it chose singing and dancing highlighting the need to say no to drugs besides conveying the dangers of HIV/AIDS.
The NGO also initiated food safety measures in the city by holding awareness programme.
Other initiatives of the organisation include holding charity programmes, Meghalaya Got Talent Season 1 among others.
The NGO is also planning to organise a road show on drugs abuse and HIV AIDS in the city.
