City remembers Tagore on his 164th birth anniversary

Shillong, May 9: Tagore admirers of Shillong paid tribute to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore at Brookside Rilbong Shillong on May 9 morning to commemorate Nobel laureate’s 164th birth anniversary.
Director Arts and Culture graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme began by floral tribute to Tagore at his statue at Brookside followed by Rabindra Sangeet rendition by ‘Shillong Tagore Choir’. Welcome song was presented by Rilbong Sports and Cultural Club and ‘Shillong Tagore Choir’. Welcome address was given by programme coordinator Reeta Ghosh. A speech on Tagore’s visit to Brookside in 1919 and current situation of Brookside was given by Malabika Bisharad who is trying to save Brookside with the help of State Government of Meghalaya as ‘Heritage’ site. Director Arts and Culture, Meghalaya expressed her love and respect to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore and said that with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tagore’s literary works can be translated into different languages which will help all Tagore admirers throughout the world. She praised ‘Shillong Tagore Choir’ for its presentation of Rabindra Sangeet in the peaceful atmosphere of Brookside. She thanked the group members of Rabindra Jayanti celebration consisting of Reeta Ghosh, Malabika Bisharad and Bibhuti Chakraborty for good presentation of morning tribute programme. The morning programme was concluded with light refreshments.
Following this, painting competition was carried out for the school children at Brookside, Rabindranath Tagore Art Gallery. Special care was given by the Director Arts and Culture, Meghalaya to the children. In the evening a cultural programme was organised at the Auditorium of Rilbong Sports and Cultural Club. The programme was organised byl Rilbong Sports and Cultural Club in collaboration with Arts and Culture Government of Meghalaya and ICCR, Shillong.
