City vendors organise cleaning drive, raise concern about plastic use
Shillong, May 9: Members of the Meghalaya & Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors Association organised a cleaning drive in various localities in the city on Monday.
The drive, which started at 8 am, is part of the larger efforts made by the association to make Shillong an inclusive city, besides making it safe and livable, said association general secretary Shane Thabah. A major part of the cleaning drive was carried out in Motphran-GS Road area.

The association is also concerned about the threat of single use plastic bags to the environment. Recently, in its executive meeting, the problem was discussed and plans are afoot to fight against this. It will soon announce its decision.
