CM chairs five review meetings including El Nino discussion

Shillong, June 23: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma reviewed five meetings on Tuesday (June 22).
El Nino
As climate uncertainties linked to El Niño continue to evolve, we are taking proactive steps to prepare Meghalaya for possible impacts on water resources, agriculture, forests, public health, and disaster management, the chief minister said
Power supply & billing issues
He also reviewed power supply, billing issues and consumer grievances in areas managed by SAI Computers under the MePDCL Distribution Franchisee arrangement.
He stressed that consumer trust and service delivery must remain top priority. While operational challenges exist, people expect reliable power, fair billing and responsive service, he added.
“Directed MePDCL and the franchisee to accelerate infrastructure upgrades, replace defective meters and transformers, strengthen public outreach, and ensure grievances”, he added.
PM Surya Ghar
The chief minister also reviewed the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Scheme and discussed ways to accelerate rooftop solar adoption across Meghalaya.
Our focus is on building a comprehensive renewable energy roadmap that enhances energy security, promotes sustainability, and ensures long-term benefits for our people, he added .
Education grading index
Improving Meghalaya’s Performance Grading Index (PGI) remains a key priority.
The chief minister held a second review meeting to assess progress and finalize key action points aimed at strengthening our performance.
The review focused on bridging the school infrastructure and amenities gaps, enhancing data quality, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting by schools which are critical factors in improving PGI indicators.
Ths government also reviewed ongoing and completed upgradation works of schools and colleges.
Rilbong–Anjalee–Barik Point road
The officials Indian Army, NHIDCL, PWD, and district officials discussed practical solutions for easing traffic congestion along the Rilbong–Anjalee–Barik Point road.
“We reviewed road widening proposals, junction improvements, traffic management measures, and long-term infrastructure options to improve traffic flow in Shillong. With the National Games approaching, our focus is on implementing immediate measures while planning sustainable long-term solutions”, Conrad said.
