CM urged to act against outsourcing printing works
Alleged graft in printing and stationary department
Shillong, July 5: Activist Egenstar Kurkalang has urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to take action against anomalies in printing and stationary department.
In a letter addressed to the chief minister on Tuesday, Kurkalang, who is also a lawyer, said as per RTI findings, it was found that the CAG reports of 2010-2020, had revealed that the Department of Government Printing Press and Stationary, misappropriated Rs 209.47 lakh ie. Rs 87.58 lakh and Rs 121.89 lakh respectively for printing works entrusted by NHM, Directorate of Health Services and others in previous years which were further outsourced by the Department of Printing and Stationary to unqualified firms/traders/individuals/without floating tender (NIT),without approved rate, without formalities code, without rate quotation and others.
Kurkalang also said it was found that there were so many irregularities which break the protocol and decorum of the government thereby incurring loss to government exchequer besides disrupting the functioning of the government and welfare of the state.
“In this regard, I humbly urge the Government through your good self as the head of the government to initiate immediate action which is fit and proper as per the law or departmental proceeding, and anyone involved in this type of illegalities which is against the law of the land and against the interest of the public the government should not spare its responsibility or they should not be escaped by any means”, he said in the letter to the chief minister.
