CM’s one-hour ID-speech: Parade commander collapses, returns after first aid

Shillong, Aug 15:The female parade commander collapsed during the long speech of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma at the Independence Day celebrations held at Polo Ground here on Saturday ( Aug 15).

She was taken on a stretcher by the medics.

After the first aid, she returned to the ground.

A girl student was taken by the volunteers to the first-aid room.

After an NCC cadre, who was standing in front of the chief minister, who was delivering the speech, felt unwell, she was given water by a media person after she gestured.

Though the weather was mild, unlike the last few days, many girl students, who were part of the parade contingents, sat on the ground as they could not stand any longer.

An official had announced ahead of the speech of the chief minister that the participants were free to drink water to beat dehydration.

Water and ORS bottles were served to the participants.

Though the speech was shorter in the printed version, the chief minister used a teleprompter for the first time and went beyond the speech, copies of which were already circulated.
