CoMSO blames CM for shielding AG, not sharing RTI reply

Shillong, Oct 9: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) has alleged that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is shielding Advocate General Amit Kumar and deliberately avoiding transparency over public money spent on the AG’s office.
In a statement issued on Friday, CoMSO general secretary Balkarin Ch Marak said the government has failed to act despite serious questions raised by the legal fraternity over Kumar’s conduct.
“The chief minister’s conduct is deeply disappointing. He gives assurances to the legal fraternity and then allows those assurances to become meaningless. If his word carries no value, what credibility remains with his government?” Marak said.
The organisation alleged that the government is hiding expenditure details.
“When information about payments and legal expenditure is sought under RTI and the government refuses to provide transparency, it raises a serious question – what is the government trying to hide? Why are people being kept in the dark about how crores of public money are spent on legal representation?” he said.
