CoMSO protests outside secretariat as cabinet discusses MRSSA

Shillong, June 13: Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) has protested outside the secretariat on Friday demanding implementation of ILP, constitution of special investigation team to detect Bangladeshis and the need to implement the Act related to inter-state workers.

CoMSO leader and HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem said these measures are needed on view of the recent murder committed by outsiders in Sohra.

While the members of the pressure group protested, the cabinet decided to revisit the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) in light of the recent incident in Sohra.

The aim is to further strengthen the Act to better prevent criminal activities carried out under the guise of tourism. This decision reflects our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents, while continuing to welcome genuine tourists to our state”, MDA spokesperson and Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
