Shillong, Sept 25: Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) has threatened to take action against the banks operating in the state on Sunday ( Sept 27).
A notification was issued by CoMSO on Friday ( Sept 25)
The opening of banks on Sunday was after United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) announced strike for three days from September 28 demanding work only for 5 days in a week

Despite the strong objection raised by COMSO and the legitimate concerns of the people of Meghalaya, the concerned authorities have failed to reconsider the decision to open banks on Sunday, 27th September 2026. COMSO therefore makes it unequivocally clear that Sunday is a sacred day of worship, family and community life in Meghalaya, and the people of the State will not accept its disregard in the name of administrative convenience.
All banks are hereby put on FINAL NOTICE: Should any bank proceed to
open and conduct regular operations on Sunday, 27th September, COMSO will be compelled to initiate necessary actions of mobilisation of the people of the State and its constituent organisations to oppose such establishments across Meghalaya. The responsibility for any such action will rest squarely with those authorities and institutions that have deliberately chosen to ignore the sentiments and legitimate concerns of the people of Meghalaya.
COMSO calls upon all concerned banks to reconsider immediately and respect the distinct religious and social character of Meghalaya.
