“We have seen establishing of party offices but did not find the same interest in setting up of medical colleges”, he said.

In reply, Health Minister James Sangma said the government has identified a new site with 50 acre land. “It is a bigger plot of land with a plan to set up 100 bed hospital and other facilities, we are moving forward  after the cancellation of the earlier agreement”, he said.

In reply to supplementary questions, the health minister said earlier location at Mawbah was not in compliance with the guidelines. Moreover, approach road to Mawbah is narrow and the area is congested.

Besides, the KPC group which was entrusted to execute the project on PPP mode wanted lease period for 99 years, more land and change in fee structure resulting in the cancellation of the project.

James said the government is exploring PP mode with other parties with the support from NITI Ayog to start the Shillong medical college.
