Shillong, Sep 13: Who will bell the cat? In case of Meghalaya ruling alliance, it could be said which department will tackle the opposition question?
There was a confusion in the Assembly on Tuesday over directing a particular question to the wrong department. The question was raised by Trinamool Congress MLA Dikkanchi D. Shira. She wanted to know from the government whether weighbridges have been installed in Mahendraganj, and if yes, the location.
To this, Legal Metrology Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar replied that his department is responsible for checking the weightage of the bridge and not issuing licence, which is under the ambit of the Transport Department. He reiterated his answer when Shira raised the question again.
Later, Shira said she had directed the question to the relevant department but it was diverted to Legal Metrology.
To this, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “There are large number of questions. It is surprising. I will find out the fact.”
Umroi MLA George Lyngdoh too complained that on Monday, he had directed a question to the Transport Department but it was directed to the PWD.
