Confusion over killing of truck driver at Mawshun

Shillong, May 6: Different versions have emerged on the killing of a truck driver at Mawshun, under Pynursla, East Khasi Hills   on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Running Mongkynrih (32) hailing from Nongkynrih Jalynteng village.

The relatives have filed an FIR on Saturday following which the police registered a case at Pynursla police station.

“We have registered a case”, said East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger

The incident took place around 11 pm on Friday.

According to the relatives, the BSF personnel shot him.

A BSF source said the driver was carrying cattle in his truck.

The BSF personnel were deployed to check cattle smuggling following the recovery of 70 cattle from West Jaintia Hills and the arrest of two persons on May 4.

According to the BSF source, the BSF personnel asked the driver to stop but he wanted to proceed resulting in the BSF resorting to blank fire in the air.

The BSF is yet to release any official statement.

“On spot investigation is being carried out by BSF, will let you know shortly”, a BSF official said.

A relative of the victim said the latter was shifting 6 buffalloes from the nearby area to another place and there was nothing illegal.
