Shillong, Feb 10: The Congress has condemned the personal vendetta on ex-Gambegre MLA Saleng Sangma and demanded to restore his personal security.
Saleng has denied any fleeing or chasing and demanded the video clip of the chasing, if the vigilante team has any with them.
Police had claimed that Saleng refused to stop when he was asked to do so for checking but nothing was found from his vehicle. .A case was also registered against him. Later the security cover was withdrawn.
“Under the above said circumstances Saleng Sangma’s security cover withdrawal and the related events is suspected to be a part of political conspiracy and vendetta from the ruling government”, said a statement issued by by AICC Media Coordinators, Adv. Mathew Antony, Bobbeeta Sharma and Sanjay Das, General Secretary, Meghalaya PCC.
They urged state and the central election machineries to restore his security owing to increased levels of threat to his life.
Anti-Christian face of BJP.
They also condemned the political pitch by the Janajati Dharma Sanskriti Suraksha Manch (an organisation backed by RSS) on their demand to remove the Scheduled Tribe status of people who have embraced Christianity.
“It is against the spirit of respecting the indigenous ethnic origin of the Scheduled Tribes of the North East, especially the Christian community in Meghalaya and Nagaland”, the AICC said.
It also demonstrates the compelling need of BJP to repeatedly invoke their anti minority, anti-Christian mentality, the AICC leaders said.
“Stripping of Scheduled Tribe status from the Christian tribals is with the agenda to strip them of their rights awarded to them by the Sixth Schedule of the constitution. We demand an apology and unconditional withdrawal of this from the BJP to keep the Scheduled Tribe people of North East out of fear on their ethnic identity”, they said.
