Cong blames Modi govt for misgovernance in NE

New Delhi, August 18 (UNI): The Congress alleged that the Narendra Modi-led government has pushed the North East into a chaos and breakdown of constitutional machinery because of “failure of responsibility to maintain Internal security” in the region.

In a statement on Wednesday, party General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala said the situation is beyond alarming and multiple states in the North East are being pushed into an unprecedented cycle of lawlessness.

“This is a total failure of responsibility to maintain ‘internal security’ on the part of Home Minister, Amit Shah,” he said.

“This abdication of constitutional duties and failure to intervene to restore even a semblance of order and rule of law goes against National interests and territorial integrity of the country,” Surjewala said.

Surjewala also posted four questions to the Prime Minister and the home minister regarding the prevailing situation in the North East.

Attacking Modi and Amit Shah, the party secretary said, “If Government of India will be privy to such violent clashes between police of the two states, it is greatest disservice to India’s ethos as a Nation by those responsible for protecting India’s territorial integrity.”
