Former union minister Mukul Wasnik and former external affairs minister Salman Khurshid campaigned for party candidates in the region.

AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik campaigned for Congress candidate from North Tura Billykid A Sagma and party nominee from Gambegre constituency Saleng Sagma stressing the party’s commitments for various sections of the state.

“BJP is enforcing a majoritarian agenda and people of North-East will not accept that,” said Wasnik asserting that the Congress party respects the diversity of the country and believes in pluralistic values enshrined in the constitution.

The leaders campaigned for Sayeedullah Nongrum in his constituency Mahendraganj. Nongrum had served as Health Minister of Meghalaya in the previous Congress government.

“Sayeedullah Nongrum is a senior leader and he stood by the people of his constituency  thick and thin. I have toured the constituency and seen how people respect this person,” Khurshid said addressing a crowd in Mahendraganj. He expressed confidence that the Congress party would win in  the upcoming Assembly elections.

Khurshid also joined Wasnik to campaign for Congress party’s North Tura and Gambegre candidates. Congress party is also bringing its senior leaders including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, former president Rahul Gandhi, Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi along with other senior AICC leadership to campaign for party candidates this week.
