Cong protests against price hike
Shillong, April 2: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) staged a protest on Saturday at Congress Bhawan against fuel ike and price rise of essential commodities.
The youth leaders said that the hike in petrol, diesel and cooking gas has nothing to do with Russia- Ukraine war as earlier reasoned by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and others.
Manuel Badwar, secretary in-charge social media of the Congress, on Saturday told reporters that the state government can reduce the petrol and diesel price as done in the past.
He said the administration can control the price of essential commodities and the views aired in the media quoting some quarters that price rise is due to the inability of trucks to enter the city during the day is a lame excuse.
Daily wage workers should be compensated as the government has already collected huge amount of labour cess, he said, adding that beyond the hand to mouth existence, now the hands of the poor are not reaching their mouths.
He said the government should make sure that the workers get their dues in time of crisis like this.
“Increase grass root level entrepreneurship as the so called Prime Hubs are helping only the elite entrepreneurs and this is not bringing any economic uplift”, he said
President of Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress, Adrian L Chyne Mylliem said the fuel price hike has brought undue hardships to the people of the state.
Congress leader Marbud Dkhar said the party is contemplating to launch protests in all the districts of the state.
Mahila Congress president Joplin Shylla pointed out that it is an irony that different localities in the city are having difference price index which will have to be controlled by the administration.
