Cong seeks disqualification of 12 MLAs, meets Speaker

Shillong, Nov 29: The Congress has petitioned the Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh against the merger of 12 MLAs to TMC and urged him to disqualify them.

The petition, separately addressed to 12 legislators, was submitted by Congress legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday to the speaker.

Ampareen was accompanied by legislators PT Sawkmie, Mohendro Rapsang, MDC PN Syiem and MPCC president Vincent Pala.

They were supported by senior advocate VGK Kynta and his legal team.

Since the two Congress legislators, Mayralborn Syiem and Kimfa Marbaniang, had prior assignment being part of the government level border committee, they were not present.

The stand of the legislators is that even if there is a split in the Congress, this has to take place in the parent party which is INC at the national level.

According to the Congress, the merger too has to take place at the national level.

The Congress said in the case of 12 MLAs, the TMC did not have any state unit and even f it is a merger, the districts and the blocks will have to merge with the new party whereas they are still intact.
